I wrote this poem years ago and released it within my book, Wearing Someone Else’s Shoes Ain’t Never Been Me.

I learned that patience is a characteristic, and also a virtue, that God wants us to develop. Sometimes having patience is a challenge, not only for our flesh but also in our circumstances. However, I am reminded that things will fall into place as you productively and strategically wait. Moreover, patience requires an understanding that you cannot control everything, and you must not let that fact control your emotions or diminish your hope.

Patience

Patience

is what I’ve been subject to

Having to wait

Be still

Stay

Hold on

Retry

And

Yield

Keep hoping

Hang on to my expectations

Sometimes change my plans

Don’t plan

Cancel

Ignore

Block out

Count to ten

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Pray hard

Build my faith

Admit the truth

Face the truth

Reject the lies

Be still and stand

And stay on board

Be aware of the time

Stop to listen

Cling on to God’s promises

Dream,

and then dream some more

Set goals

Rearrange

Stay calm

Plant the seeds

And watch

And wait, and then wait some more

Huh – more patience…..
