This week, we have had some pretty high temperatures here in the Chicagoland. And for the rest of the summer, whether it is hot, hotter or not, we want to make sure we have some Summer necessities in tow.
I am not new to sharing on my platforms great products I have come across and use in my everyday life, but now I get to share them and earn a commission. I value your trust above everything else, and I want to be upfront with my new endeavor. I’m in the Amazon Associates program, and some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you click and buy. But I promise I only recommend products I truly believe in and think will add value to your life.
Here is a list of my must haves, and some of these are a must-have in all seasons:
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must-have to protect our skin from damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun that can result in skin cells dying, skin cancer, sunburn, and premature aging of the skin.

Travel Flushable Wipes
These are a must for all seasons.

Hand Wipes
Another must-have. I try to have these as well as hand sanitizer in my purse, and they are sensitive enough for your face.

Handheld Portable Fan
Next on my list of things to get is a portable fan. This heat ain’t like the heat I had growing up lbs. It is hotter than Satan’s kitchen, as my playbrother would say. Fix it, Jesus.

African Net Sponge
The Summer weather can make you feel hot and sticky, so you may come in from work and head right back to the shower. These net sponges are good for cleaning and exfoliating your skin.

Allergy Medicine
If you suffer from allergies like I do, you definitely need allergy medicine this season.

Hat
On days full of humidity, hating weather that leaves our hairstyles begging for mercy, a hat and ponytail can save the day. And here is a hat for those days and for your ponytail.

Other things we are going to need this summer are water, your favorite water bottle, beach gear, portable charger, some snacks, and the heart and mind to enjoy another summer.
What are some Summer essentials you like to have?
This week, I scheduled a visit to the Chicago History Museum with some of my family. This was the youngun’s second visit, but my mom and sis’s first time.
Here are some photos:

Check out my latest video from me heading to the show until taking pictures after. I went to see the new Bad Boys: Ride or Die film. See what rating I gave it.
This Bad Boys film was a bit unique as it had some scenes in the movie that made me think they were references to some other popular movies. And the fighting scenes were awesome. One particular scene as both sides went back and forth, the visual was giving a scene from a video game. Moreover, the plot was pretty good.
Check out the video and make sure you like, comment, and subscribe.

We are living in an over saturated and social media-driven world, and it has many of us working over time to stay relevant or push our products and services. I admit that coming up, we had a big celebrity culture where we were posting celebrities’ pictures on our walls and reading about them in magazines every chance we got, but now any one can be famous and for little to no effort and with no proper media training. I am glad that celebrity culture is starting to wean a bit today, and I hate that anyone can be famous or go viral. I am also glad that we are starting to demand more authenticity and standards with celebrities.

But we can’t deny that social media has everyone in our household’s attention from the toddler to the elder and from TikTok to YouTube. As I mentioned before, anyone can become famous, and all it takes is for someone to pull out their camera. Our phone’s cameras are constantly being turned on and sometimes for good things like capturing injustices and memories to be shared with friends and family as well as social media. Social media can also be good for connecting with people all across the world for purpose and building community. It can be great for learning new things and sharing awareness about problems in our world and accomplishments in the world from even everyday people like you and me. And, in ever-growing entrepreneurial cultures around the world, it can also be great for broadcasting your talents, gifts, businesses, and brands.

I love that I can share my poetry and encouragement as well as thoughts on a matter. And sometimes a lot of fun things like what I cooked or a concert I went to. Many of us want to make an impact on the world and just share a part of ourselves with the world. However, whew, the shy and introvert in me would not want to ever go viral. That over-exposure and responsibility scares me. In fact, some days, I feel like if I could pull a Sia as a writer or blogger, I would, lol. I like my privacy. I prefer to preserve parts of my life for me and those I love, and in a world that isn’t so safe, I am learning to navigate boundaries, even online.
Nevertheless, I understand we live in the era of social media and branding, and you can’t always hide behind your gifts and talents or fears of becoming successful and exposed for the good. So, how do we find balance in an open, over-saturated, social-media driven society?
Tell me how you find balance in an overly saturated and social media-crazed society?
Last night, I had a family game night. It was spur of the moment. I accompanied it with pizza. I wanted to order out Friday and just relax. We ordered Beggars Deep Dish pizza, fried mushrooms, and fried chicken wings. As always, it was good, and oh, I ordered the Cinnamon Bites for dessert. The bites were ok. I think they need to add a version of these on the menu with cream cheese filling or something. Just my opinion.

This summer, I look forward to having more game nights with the family. It is such a good time to bond, laugh, talk, and even build critical thinking skills with some of the games. I bought a lot of games late last year due to an event we were having at church and to have on hand for game time at family functions, holidays, and game nights. I also used them for a parent game night at work I hosted.
But last night, I rolled out the Bingo and played that with family while watching an old film called the Invasion of the Body Snatchers 😆.

What games do you normally play for family or friends game night?

Want to add Bingo to your game night? Here is the link (see below) to purchase your very own Bingo and have fun with the family, church, or friends. Or colleagues. I recently played Bingo with colleagues also and we had a fabulous time.

Whew. After an evening of trying on new clothes, I found myself sitting on the edge of my bed, feeling emotional. I noticed the changes in my body—some weight gain, more visible cellulite, and the lump under my underarm that has increased in size. On top of that, I’ve been experiencing some discomfort in my legs and hips, stiffness in my feet, and what might be the return of sciatica from my accident two years ago.
I’m not quick to claim illness or fatigue (my mother’s voice in my head still warns against that), but I do want to be more intentional about paying attention to what my body is telling me—and figuring out how to care for it as I move forward.
I’ve been stretching daily and exercising almost every day since my arm healed from a recent injury. I still get plenty of walking in by taking public transportation and walking the dog every day.
Despite that, this recent weight gain and recurring pain have been the hardest to shake. I’m planning to schedule an appointment soon with my new primary care doctor. In the past, I’ve felt gaslit during doctor visits, which made it harder to seek help.
I have ordered vitamins/supplements and the occasional workout gadget or piece of equipment, hoping that it makes much of a difference and because of my love for self care. I even cut out ice cream—aside from one family function—and I’ve been eating more fruits, vegetables, and salads (Caesar salads are my favorite) more frequently.
I wonder if I don’t give up hope and continue with my efforts as well as continue my healing journey mentally and spiritually, will next year be a year when the extra weight falls off, the lump gone, and little to no pain. In the meantime, I pray I embrace the changes to my body as well as fight through the pain. I will leave this here, but I may delete it soon.

New Video Alert!
Come check out my web version or digital Children’s book titled Destiny’s Shoes.
Great for story time with your little one and an awesome conversation starter about purpose and destiny.
Everyone has a destiny and purpose.
I like to think that destiny is your ordained calling, end goal, or destination for your life. Purpose is why you were created and the vehicle that aids you in fulfilling your destiny. I still have yet to fully understand destiny, at least the way God views it. Nevertheless, this definition of destiny and purpose have helped me a bit.
Watch this with your little one and get the conversation started about destiny and purpose and how your children are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Enjoy!
